The Lakes Entrance Sand Management Program involves the trial of a new and improved sand management system to ensure that the entrance to Gippsland Lakes remains safe and navigable well into the future. The Program will include:
- Trialing of a Trailer Suction Hopper Dredge (TSHD)
- Implementation of a monitoring regime for sand movement
- Installation of trial sand by-pass pumps at the entrance breakwaters with sand pumped to a suitable discharge point(s) along the coast
- Improvements and repairs to the existing sand transfer system (STS)
- Replacement of the cutter suction dredge (csd) Sandpiper
- Development of specifications for replacement of April Hamer
This Implementation Plan outlines the agreed approach for delivering this work by December 2011.
