Dredging sand at Lakes Entrance to keep the entrance channel and internal navigation channels open is a major function for Gippsland Ports. A long term dredging plan is in place and Gippsland Ports is vigorously seeking additional funds to replace ageing equipment and to install new equipment which will counter the flow of sand from the ocean into the Gippsland Lakes.
