In September 2002, the Commonwealth Government granted East Gippsland Shire $193,000 to undertake a study of sand management options at Lakes Entrance. Gippsland Ports has managed the study under agreement with the Shire. A workshop of stakeholders and experts was held at Lakes Entrance in November 2002, at which the components and parameters of the study brief were agreed to.
