The establishment of a Technical Advisory and Consultative Committee (TACC) is one of the procedures recommended in the National Ocean Disposal Guidelines for Dredged Material for proponents seeking longer-term dredging permits. A TACC is intended to assist the determining authority and the proponent in protecting the local environment and in reconciling various stakeholder interests.

The Lakes Entrance TACC was first convened by Gippsland Ports in March 2005 as part of the process to obtain its five-year Sea Dumping Permit for side-cast dredging of the Bar.

The TACC informally met again in February 2006 at a Stakeholder Workshop to be briefed about the Lakes Entrance Sand Management Program.

Meeting #2 of the TACC was held in December 2006.
