Ecology Australia Pty Ltd was commissioned by Gippsland Ports to prepare an existing conditions
report on the terrestrial flora and fauna within a study area situated on the Boole Poole Peninsula
and Long Island at Lakes Entrance in East Gippsland. The work forms part of the Lakes Entrance
Sand Management Program (LESMP), which aims to improve the sand management regime which
keeps the ocean entrance to the Gippsland Lakes open at Lakes Entrance. The study area straddles a
2 km stretch of the eastern end of Boole Poole Peninsula to the west of the entrance, and a 2 km
stretch of the western end on Long Island east of the entrance. A report on the terrestrial flora and
fauna values of the study area is required to assist in defining and minimising the environmental
impacts of the proposed works connected with the Sand Management Program.
