There has been significant progress made on the Lakes Entrance Sand Management Program (LESMP) during this quarter:

§         A contract has been awarded for the trial of the Trailer Suction Hopper Dredge (TSHD), which is scheduled to commence in March 2008 or earlier if statutory approvals can be obtained before this time.

§         A Key Features Brief has been prepared for the Sand Transfer Station (STS) and specifications have been drafted in preparation for tendering of these works in January 2008.

§         GHD has prepared a technical report outlining the requirements for the refit of the STS.  This report will be used to guide detailed design in early 2008.

§         Tenders have been evaluated for various plant, equipment and services required to extend the STS pipeline further upstream of Reeves channel.  It is anticipated that these contracts will be awarded in January 2008.

§         Most of the LESMP monitoring equipment is now fully operational and the remaining equipment has been procured ready for installation early in 2008.

§         A morphological model has been set up to model sand movement in the entrance and inner channels of Lakes Entrance and on the bar, and early results confirm the benefits of using both a sand bypass system and a TSHD.

§         Significant progress has been made towards securing the statutory approvals required to deliver the LESMP.
